This is an infographic I created a couple years ago. Please feel free to use it at your leisure (printing it, posting it in your office or place of business, etc.), but do not change any of the info, etc. The PDF is also attached.
What is the difference between Altitude & Elevation?
Elevation is a fixed point upon the earth's surface, measured as a height above sea level. Example: The Mile-High city (Denver) is 5280ft in elevation.
Altitude is a fixed point within the air and also measured as a height above sea level. Example: The plane is flying at an altitude of 30,000ft. Also, our bodies can be considered within altitude for every millimeter of our being that is above the soles of our feet (that are touching the earth's surface). So, if you're 6ft, and you're standing at an elevation of 10,000ft, the top of your head would be at an altitude of 10,006ft. The same would apply when you're waiving your arms in the air (they'd be measurements of altitude).
